The next generation deserves a better kind of school - so we built it from the ground up. We believe education should have two purposes: to instill a lifelong love of learning, and provide kids the skills to thrive in the future. When we built Prisma, we asked: if we started from scratch focused on those two goals, what might school look like? Today, Prisma looks like the best ideas in innovative education, crossed with the joy and flexibility of homeschooling. Prisma looks like harnessing technology, not only to personalize the curriculum, but to connect kids with the best educators worldwide. Prisma looks like a global community of families doing school differently. Our ethos is ‘hard fun’: interesting problems to solve, creative projects to tackle, and an environment where learning is dynamic and exciting. We believe that learning should have purpose in the real world, learning isn’t one-size-fits all, learning happens in community and kids should learn how to think, not what to think. If you believe this too and you dream of a job where you can truly have an impact on the world, read on!
What the role is
This is a part-time contract position for 3 week-long camp engagements per year. In addition to 3 camp weeks - role includes approximately 40 hours of paid prep hours leading up to each camp.
While Prisma primarily takes place virtually with kids learning from home, three times per year we host Endeavors, multi-day, in-person experiences that bring the Prisma community together IRL. Designed as partnerships between parents, Prisma, and external organizations such as the YMCA, Endeavors go far beyond typical field trips offering an immersive overnight camp experience. Families consistently describe Prisma Endeavors as some of the most transformational experiences their kids have had at Prisma.
Every great camp needs someone who can walk into a room of 100 kids and instantly own it, that’s the role of the Endeavors Facilitator & Ringmaster. You’ll join our team of planners to help choose locations, coordinate programming and scheduling, and ensure we have everything we need to bring each Endeavor to life. At camp, you're front and center — the loudest voice, the biggest energy, and the connective thread that ties every moment together. You make magic for kids.
But this role goes deeper than logistics and hype. You're also a leadership developer — someone who uses the Prisma Endeavors camp stage as a classroom, modeling what great leadership looks, sounds, and feels like, and creating genuine space for learners to discover and grow their own. You don't just run the show; you teach others how to step into one. You are a role model to the kids and a mentor at heart.
What you will do
- Support Program Leadership & Direction
- Work as part of the Prisma Endeavors team to support in direction all day-to-day camp operations across the full duration of each engagement for approximately 100 learners across three (5 night / 6 day) camps each school year. We generally do a camp for one week each in October, February, and May.
- Work as part of the Prisma Endeavors team to design and oversee a balanced schedule of structured activities, leadership programming, free time, meals, and evening experiences appropriate for grades 4–12
- Serve as one of the on-the-ground decision-makers for culture, safety, and experience quality at all times
- Large Group Facilitation and Emceeing
- Command the room — lead large group sessions, all-camp gatherings, and high-energy programming moments as the face and voice of camp
- Emcee with intention — script and improvise transitions, announcements, and ceremonies that are engaging, inclusive, and on-brand for our culture at Prisma
- Set the energy — open each day with momentum and close it with meaning; you're the emotional anchor of the experience
- Read and respond — adapt your approach in real time based on what the group needs; you know when to amp it up and when to pull it back
- Leadership Development, Design, and Facilitation
- Facilitate structured activities that build real leadership skills: communication, collaboration, initiative, and creative problem-solving
- Model leadership in action — show learners what it looks like to hold a room with confidence, humility, and purpose
- Create on-ramps for participants — identify moments to bring campers into facilitation roles, giving them low-stakes practice leading their peers
- Design community-building rituals and programming that strengthen connection across grade levels
- Volunteer Management and Support:
- Support in the training and supervision of camp chaperones and activity specialists in coordination with the Prisma Endeavors Team.
- Along with our Cabin Lead and Activities Lead, conduct pre-camp staff orientation covering safety protocols, Prisma's educational philosophy, and group facilitation best practices
- Safety and Risk Management: Maintain ACA standards or equivalent throughout all programming. Along with the Endeavors Team, develop and implement emergency response plans; serve as a primary decision-maker in critical situations. Oversee medication management, health screenings, and communication with camp health staff.
Who the ideal candidate is
- Have 3+ years directing overnight or residential youth camps serving mixed-age groups
- Are a natural large-group facilitator and emcee — high energy, commanding presence, and deeply intentional about how you use it and support others in finding their voice too; are equally comfortable managing logistics and standing in front of 100 kids with a microphone
- Have a background in leadership development, experiential education, or youth programming; can design and lead structured leadership activities that feel engaging, not academic and know how to create moments where young people feel seen, challenged, and capable.
